Savuti, A Haven in the Bush

We arrived at the Savuti airstrip midday. We were met by Carlton, who would be our guide for the four days of our stay there. Savuti tented camp was about a 20 minute drive through the bush along rough dirt roads.

We were met by a very friendly staff and felt immediately at home. We were shown to our rooms which we got to by boardwalk. They gave us a place that had two adjacent rooms so that we could be together as a family.

After getting situated I was invited to help them decorate a Christmas tree they had just cut down from the bush. It was nice, since we left our home in Provo without having a tree or much in the way of holiday preparation like we normally would at this time of year.

Again, the view from our thatched tent was spectacular. We resided on the banks of the Linyante Concession along the Savute Channel.
At night we could hear the calming sound of the Bell Frogs which live along the waters edge. They made a sound like wind chimes being played by a gentle breeze.

Our daily schedule went something like this: 5 a.m.- wake up by Carlton, 5:30- breakfast buffet, 6 a.m.- morning game drive, 11:30- return to camp and lunch, 12-4 p.m.- free time consisting of nap, playing games, fishing from railing of the main lodge, 4 p.m.- tea, 4:30 p.m.- evening game drive, 7:30- dinner. Except for the early morning wake up time, our stay was very relaxing and enjoyable.
