Victoria Falls

Our guide named Godfrey took us to see Victoria Falls and explain the history of the area. The falls were called Mosi au Tunya, or "The Smoke That Thunders", by the original inhabitants of the area. The gorge where it falls is part of a seven part zig zag fault line. Victoria Falls is approximately 5577 feet wide and over 300 feet fall at its highest. It is considered to be the biggest curtain of water in the world, and, as so, is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

It was a very hot day and it was fortunate that much of the trail was in the shade. When we neared the falls and could see them, it was hard to take it all in at once. They seemed to go on and on. The expanse of the falls was awesome.

As we walked along the path across from the falls, we felt the mist rising up from the gorge as well as raining down from above. We were soaked from below and above. I understand that it is the only place in the world where it rains 24/7/365.
